Social Media: Who's my Audience?

End of the last week, wrapping up with my Monitis work and detailed stats on what's up in the economy, I decided to look into my social sites' and what's popular. It wasn't only out of curiosity, but for learing my audince and which topics will be more appropriate for them. My targets were Sphinn, Digg, SU and Delicious. Digg for example has a first page, Delicious shows recently popular stories and tags, Sphinn also has top stories. SU is different. I could only check the "websites" section and examine most popular tags.

Digg

Yeah too much noise about the U.S. election now and the Digg community is very actively digging political content "Obama or McCain, Republican or Democrat"!

With the American election looming naturally many recent postings are concerning politics.

However there are several other topics like technology, science, worlds business, gaming, art, software.

Here are the 5 hottest stories with thousands of diggs:

No WAY!! Sarah Palin Pranked by Radio DJs

Obama's new 30 min long infomercial

"We can still win this!"

Look what happened at my house (A photo diary)

First look at Windows 7

Delicious

Del.icio.us - a pretty nice social bookmarking tool which allows to save bookmarks from anywhere in the net .

Last week the 10 most used tags were design ,blog , video, software, tools, music, programing, webdesign, photography, tutorial

5 Popular posts here show their relenancy to those tags:

40 Beautiful Free Icon Sets - Six Revisions

Most Wanted Ajax Techniques: 50+ Examples and Tutorials

35 Tutorials for Creating Website Layouts in Photoshop

50 websites you'll wonder how you lived without

Gems of Python

Sphinn

Internet marketing news and discussion forums, more a SEO than a social media site. Has smaller and more specialized community. My collegue Gayane's there, I will soon join it too. Like the stories there and want to take part.

Last the most popular categories in Sphinn were search marketing, social media, online marketing, google, SEO , SEM industry. I assume these are always most popular, since Sphinn is dedicated to SEO and SEM topics.

Here’s a few recent ones which were popular this week

Remove The Category Base From Wordpress

Greedy BBC Blocks External Links

Future of SEO

The Search Engine Buying Cycle

Big Changes to The StumbleUpon Algorithm and Toolbar

StumbleUpon

I like SU a lot. It doesn't have a front page, but I decided to write about it, because it's a very nice community and friendly environment there.

I looked in the Popular Websites and here are the most popular tags: Videos, photography, design, humor, since, society , living, blogs, technology , business , politics.

I enjoy Social Media. It increases also my web popularity and I receive good and targeted traffic from social networking. I can even spend only 10 seconds for the report, according to the video below:
